There are many ethnic and religious groups in Pakistan that suffer from political neglect and government indifference. In Gwadar protests worst-hit province in particular, local grievances against Islamabad and Rawalpindi are often silenced for fear of brutal crackdowns and media blackouts. However, an exception appears to have made in December 2021, as the government granted and agreed to certain demands made by local people in Gwadar. This should not seen as a turning point in the government’s sympathy for its citizens, but rather as a clear sign of the Pakistani government’s sympathy for the Chinese and their rich resources.
China-Pakistan Economic Corrido
The Gwadar Koh Hak (or Empowerment of Gwadar) movement has seen tens of thousands of women, men and young children march the city’s arterial highways, home to the “precious jewels” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Gwadar protests port chanting slogans against the regional government. In November 2021, protests began in Gwadar Balochistan, as local residents demanded better rights and livelihoods. The Gwadar Koh Hak (or Empowerment of Gwadar) movement has seen tens of thousands of women, men and young children march the city’s arterial highways, home to the “precious jewels” of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Gwadar port chanting slogans against the regional government.
The protesters had a long list of demands, including better access to electricity and education, removal of unnecessary checkpoints and action against the “trawler mafia” that has ruined the lives of local fishermen in coastal towns. More than a month after the start of the protests, the government of Balochistan ended the sit-down of the protest leaders by pledging to implement the measures demanded by the protesters.
The Gwadar protests development of events in Gwadar mainly reflects two things. First, it is a side effect of “development with Chinese characteristics”. Pakistan believed that building the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and using a modern port at Gwadar would mean economic flexibility and job creation.
The development of events in Gwadar
The economic activity created in Gwadar continued to benefit Chinese businesses and workers, and stirred deep hostility toward Beijing among the local population. The projects in China have not provided jobs for the local population as promised. While Chinese fishing vessels deplete fish stocks and exploit natural resources, the project also oversees the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, with retired military officials appointed to key positions to line their pockets, and Gwadar protests encourages high levels of corruption. The economic activity generated in Gwadar continued to benefit Chinese businessmen and workers, and sparked intense hostility towards Beijing among the local population.
Demanding basic necessities
The sad fact is that the local population is demanding basic necessities such as clean drinking water and basic medical facilities during these protests. This means Gwadar protests that there is rather than making Gwadar is part of Balochistan’s economic haven and the province’s incorporation into the rest of Pakistan, the port project will alienate the local population as the Pakistani government continues to pledge and pledge in the sky, and has had the opposite effect.
The Citizens’ protests
The Gwadar protests also give us greater insight into how the Pakistani state chooses to engage with different civil society groups. Citizens’ protests against the lack of rights granted by the state are common in this country. The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), a multi-party opposition coalition, has repeatedly criticized the Pakistani government of Terek Kinsav over its economic policies and high inflation rates. Pashtuns also staged peaceful protests against the state, citing a lack of rights in the tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gwadar protests Balochistan, under the banner of the Pashtun Tahafuz movement Pakistani.
Traitors and suppressing with military force
This is similar to the way countries dealt with some Baloch groups, including peaceful ones, calling them traitors and suppressing them with military force. But other protests, especially those led by the religious right, have been successful. Groups like Tehreek-e-Labaik Pakistan have been very effective in extracting concessions from states through violent and extremist actions like killings, destruction of public property.
The hostage-taking by the government until the demands of extremists met. The government of Pakistan will not undermine, either violently or peacefully, relations with China (such as the Gwadar protesters) or with far-right groups (such as the TLP). We remain consistent in our policy of appeasing groups who fear .
Violently or peacefully, relations with China
Pashtuns also staged peaceful protests against the state, citing a lack of rights in the tribal areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, under the banner of the Pashtun Tahafuz movement. The protests in Gwadar have suspended for the time being, and while the government may recognize the importance of keeping the local population on its side, the protests expected to mobilize the local population not only in Gwadar, but across the Makran coast. The possibility of keeping the peace, at least for the time being, and claiming their right. It is important for state governments.
Gwadar demonstrators threaten
The long held illusion that the Chinese can bring about change in this country will eventually crumble. Gwadar demonstrators threaten to block the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project Gwadar: Hundreds of children staged a protest march in the coastal city of Gwadar to take part in a sit-in led by Maulana Hidayat Rahman, which entered its 18th day on Sunday. The request will not processed within one week. Maulana Rehman, chairman of the Haq-e-Tehreq party
The authorities concerned
They chanted slogans against the government and the authorities concerned for not implementing the agreements signed by the government, including the ban on trawling in Gwadar and the abolition of unnecessary checkpoints. The general secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Balochistan branch, he has also been a vocal critic of the government, saying that people in Makran have been protesting for the past two weeks, but government officials have not come to negotiate. He warned against closing the highway, Gwadar Port, and corridor projects in case the citizens. Demands are not met and the agreement with Haqq-e-Tahirik is not fulfilled until November 20.
Take steps to solve their parents problems
He knew that the movement he started could not abandoned now, that the rulers did not take steps to solve their parents’ problems, and even the children who attended the rally said he would lead future protests. If Pakistan is with the soldiers, MPs, generals and judges, we will not accept this kind of Pakistan,” Morana said, urging the people to prepare for a long and peaceful struggle.
Procrastination increases the possibility
As the Gwadar protests enter its second phase, all paths to resolution now pass through the Balochistan Provincial Government, federal governments and the leaders of the Gwadar protests. It is a matter between the protesters and the two governments that must resolved without delay. Procrastination increases the possibility that non-state actors will usher in a new chapter in the demonization of North Korea-China relations: the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the port of Gwadar.
