Azerbaijan Passenger Plane Allegedly Hit by Missile in Kazakhstan

An Azerbaijan passenger plane crashed near a Kazakhstan airport on Wednesday, killing 38 people and injuring 29.

According to international media, the plane was traveling from Baku to Chechnya when it crashed near the Kazakhstan airport. The aircraft had 67 people on board, including the crew.

Passengers were from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

Initial investigations suggested that the crash happened due to a bird strike during an emergency landing attempt.

However, sources from Geo News claim the plane was allegedly hit by a missile.

The sources stated that Russian or Chechen forces might have mistakenly targeted the Azerbaijan plane with a surface-to-air missile.

According to reports, the missile exploded mid-air, with fragments hitting the plane’s rear. The pilot made two failed landing attempts in Grozny, and during the third attempt, passengers reportedly heard an explosion mid-flight.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan has announced an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
